About a month ago we found out that my 5 1/2 year old son needed to receive 4 fillings. I was more than a little nervous for him since we barely made it though his simple 6 month check-up. He is a little dramatic and there were some tears and screaming in that first appointment. This time I vowed to myself to take some precautions.
While there isn’t any one specific age that is ideal for every child to get braces, there are a few signs and factors that contribute to the ideal age for your child. Look into these factors in helping you decide when is the right time for your child to receive braces.
We know that being consistent creates and strengthens good habits.
As parents we do the best we can to be consistent with brushing and flossing, and we could use a boost now and then. When our child suddenly decides to exercise their independence in the form of not brushing or flossing, or when we forget to pack the [right] toothbrush or toothpaste for our weekend camping trip.
As their baby teeth develop, kids already begin to fall into bad biting habits. While these will often start at a young age, they have the potential to continue into adulthood, affecting their teeth and causing life long problems.
